The Privilege of Facing Complex Healthcare Challenges: A Patient-Centric Plan for Deploying Primary Screening for High-Risk HPV in a Value-Based Healthcare System Laboratory
Saturday, April 25, 2026 | 12:00 – 1:30pm

Dr. Donna M. Wolk, MHA, PhD, D(ABMM)
Division Chief, Molecular and Microbial Diagnostics and Development, Geisinger Diagnostic Medicine Institute
Dr. Donna Wolk of Geisinger provides an overview of the end‑to‑end deployment process for implementing high‑risk HPV (HR HPV) screening within a value‑based healthcare system. The presentation highlights an interdisciplinary laboratory perspective involving over 100 stakeholders, including patients, clinicians, nurses, and leaders in quality, operations, and insurance plans.
The session will discuss approaches to expanding access to HR HPV testing, including the appropriate use of self‑collected vaginal specimens obtained in a healthcare setting, which may be used when cervical sampling is contraindicated or when a cervical specimen cannot otherwise be obtained.
By focusing on patient‑centered workflows, Dr. Wolk will outline practical considerations for integrating validated specimen collection options into clinical pathways to support comprehensive cervical cancer screening programs.
